Michael "Clip" Payne, born William Michael Payne on September 25, 1958, in Detroit, Michigan, is a highly influential American musician and a pivotal figure in the funk music movement. As a core member of Parliament, Funkadelic, The P-Funk Allstars, and the Parliament-Funkadelic collective since 1977, Payne has played an essential role in shaping their legendary sound. His contributions span decades, helping to define the genre with his signature style, and innovative artistic vision.

Beyond his work with Parliament-Funkadelic, Payne has established himself as a creative force in the music industry through his entrepreneurial ventures. In the late 1980s, he founded WEFUNK International, initially conceived as a platform for his solo projects. Over time, the brand evolved, leading to the establishment of WEFUNK AD2k Records and Filmworks in 1999. Under Payne’s leadership, the organization continued to grow, eventually becoming WEFUNK AD2K ENTERTAINMENT LLC, where he currently serves as CEO.

Based in Woodstock, New York, WEFUNK AD2K ENTERTAINMENT LLC is a hub of musical innovation, fostering a diverse array of artists and projects. Payne leads multiple groundbreaking groups under the WEFUNK banner, including DRUGS, 420 Funk Mob, and Cacophonic FM. These projects push the boundaries of funk, rock, and experimental music, carrying the legacy of Parliament-Funkadelic into the modern era while introducing new and exciting elements to the genre.

The label also serves as a collaborative space for an impressive lineup of artists. Over the years, WEFUNK has worked with renowned musicians such as Stefanie Keys, Joey Eppard, Stoney Clove Lane, George Clinton, Garry Shider, Michael Hampton, Shane Kirsch, Greg Boyer, E1-Ten, Lige Curry, and The Horn Dogs of Paris, among others. This network of talent reflects Payne’s commitment to fostering artistic growth, innovation, and the continued evolution of funk music.
